The New York Knicks are bracing for a difficult start to training camp as two key players, Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson, stay out with injuries. The duo, who were important in the Knicks’ previous playoff run, face uncertain return dates, casting a pall over the team’s preparations for the coming season.
Julius Randle, the Knicks’ three-time All-Star forward, is recovering from shoulder surgery he had in April after dislocating his right shoulder during the season.
Ian Begley of SNY said, “Based on other timelines for shoulder surgery, it would be surprising if Randle were ready to start training camp.”
Tom Thibodeau, the Knicks’ head coach, stated that Julius is working hard to regain full shoulder strength. He is encouraged by his development, but he will not rush him back.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Robinson is recovering from an acute injury to his left ankle that necessitated surgery in May. He has not yet been approved for high-intensity workouts and will face additional challenges before fully participating in the training camp.
Julius Randle has spent 10 seasons with the Knicks, Lakers, and Pelicans. Over 641 regular-season games, he has averaged 19.1 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. He was chosen to play in three All-Star games and received one Most Improved Player award.
Mitchell Robinson has spent six seasons with the Knicks. In his 320 regular-season games, he averaged 8.0 points and 7.9 rebounds.
