Mikal Bridges of the Knicks bids farewell to Brooklyn

Mikal Bridges of the New York Knicks bid farewell to Brooklyn in an extended Instagram post. The post featured a collage of memories from his Barclays Center adventures, following the New York Knicks’ formal announcement of his move on Saturday.

Bridges arrives in Manhattan to join Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and Jalen Brunson—all fellow Villanova University alums—in a plan aimed at building on the Knicks’ best season in more than ten years.

Over the weekend, the Knicks and Nets officially announced their unusual trade—the first of its sort since 1983—with the former shipping a large package over the Brooklyn Bridge that included five first-round selections and Bojan Bogdanovic. As part of the deal, Brooklyn reserve Keita Bates-Diop was acquired by the Knicks.

We are thrilled to add a player of Mikal’s caliber to the family. His ability to score, shoot and defense at an elite level will add to a team that continues to grow. Not only does he demonstrate excellence on the court, but Mikal’s strength of character, diligence, and dedication to the game of basketball are vital to the culture we build. We’re also happy to welcome Keita to New York and we’re happy to add a player of his quality. We also thank Bojan, Mamadi, and Shake for their contributions on and off the court and wish them all the best moving forward.

Bridges’ Brooklyn contract is set to expire in two years, during which he would be subject to a maximum hit of more than $48 million before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2026–2027.
